Raw Material,wire drawing:

The wire rod is drawn to the required size,in closer tolerances so that it can be used in cold forging.

Cold forging:

Ball blanks are cold or hot headed from rolls of wire rod or bar depending on their size and the material. The heading machine cuts off a short cylinder which length depends on balls size. Then a moving die with a concave spherical cup feeds the cylinder into a matching cup in a fixed die and make it the spherical shape.

Flashing:

The rolling between plates with concentric grooves in order to eliminate the heading witness marks and to increase the precision of the ball, In this operation the spheres are ground between two concentric pressure plates to correct the spherical shape and remove the seam formed in the cold forging.

Heat treating:

Carbon steel balls are next carburized and hardened. Heat treatment imparts the desired hardness and case depth.
The balls are hardened, if required, by heating them to a high temperature in an atmospherically controlled furnace and then quenching them into a liquid bath. They are then tempered to reduce their brittleness by heating them to a low temperature

Descaling:

This step removes the residues and by-products for the preceding process.

Hard Grinding:

Here the hardened balls are ground to improve surface finish and geometrical parameters. Several careful grinding processes with ceramic wheels lead to a higher size precision preparing the balls for the next final lapping operation.

Lapping:

The hardened ground balls are rolled between two cast iron plates. One plate is fixed while the other is rotated at a very low speed. The real secret of the extreme quality of precision balls happens here. At this stage the spherical and size have been established and are carefully inspected by ABMA customer requirements.

Polishing / Finishing:

The final production operation is polishing which adds the shiny luster to the finished ball. Proprietary chemical and mechanical processes give the balls their final micro-smoothed finish, increasing wear resistance and product longevity.
